| 04/05/2004 | New Roof - Raffel and a new Foal. |
|
The work started and volunteers Brian and Alan , heaved wood, hammered in nails, screwed screws and fixed the tin sheets and got a few extra muscles in the process! At the end of it all though we have a great roof which has proved to be invaluable for the hot sun and also the awful rain we have had lately, plus we had a great place to put Mum and new foal for a few days. Thanks all round again. As well as the raffle money there were donations from Dave Logan and Nuala, and Swans School Marbella. This means that we have also done some work on the Museum building, like repair the roof, painting, new floor, and floor covering etc. Also Christine and Alan have helped with this too. Thanks again Next event was another foal. Vulnerada somehow missed her slot for the full moon and decided to hold on to her babe , but she was huge and free spirit that she is she was too big for any of the stables and so was out on the terraces. On Friday 16th April just before 6 pm she surprised us all by giving birth.By 6.30pm there was a large wet bundle on the ground and it was a boy! He was a bit slow in getting up on his feet but with a good rub with the towel and a lot of encouragement from Mum he did get up on very wobbly legs! However when he had found the milkbar he was OK. He measured 96cms to the shoulder when he stood, that is big very big. He is a real cracker. We have called him Amadeo. So we managed to put Mum and babe under the new roof by the stable and there they stayed for a few days until Mum was ready to go out and back to the group. Now he and Aurora are galloping up and down like two racehorses! Every evening whilst Mum is at the feeder with the other girlies Amadeo wanders over to where we sit for his nightly cuddle, he really enjoys this and his silver grey coat is so soft and silky. Aurora not to be outdone follows a little later when she has fed. All this handling is so important when they are firstborn as it makes life so much easier for training later on. Michaela is doing really well on the training side. Britty, El Quivir and Serrato and Romero all walk on their lead and stop on command and now they can all lunge a bit. Each week sees an improvement. Sometimes we take out the younger ones for a walk in the valley to get them used to the outside world and they can see cars and people and trucks and trees and bushes moving etc etc. All necessary Next event here will be the arrival of Pepa and Vuela Pluma’s foals. Not long now! So life goes on here and we are steadily realizing the breeding project. If you are enjoying the news stories or have any comments, do please contact us. We love to hear from you wherever you are. Until next time, take care. |
