| 30/04/2005 | Lots to share - Parternity Test - Naughty Liason |
Since the last news update quite a lot has happened. The days just fly by and all too soon it is evening once more and time for some sleep after caring for all these donkeys!! Anyway, May time Paloma gave birth to the most gorgeous male foal. A sweet little bundle that I have to say did not look like an Andaluz!! On the daily walk with his mum outside on the track he would gallop up and down and outrun our Chico the German shepherd!! Bolero as he is called was the fastest thing on four legs that we had seen for some time! A great hit with all the visitors and particularly with the little ones he enjoyed weeks of cuddles and hugs. After Bolero’s birth we could then get all the blood samples together for the paternity testing to be done. This was done in UK at the Animal Health Trust, Newmarket. It could not be done in Spain as they do not have the machinery to do it! We had one or two surprises when the results came back as we had guessed between Relente and Romero and one or two were wrong guesses!! The biggest surprise was that Bolero was not the son of Relente!! That means of course that naughty Paloma had had a naughty liason with another donkey prior to being put with Relente up on the finca in Jaen!! And to think we waited a whole year for what should have been another Andaluz!! Such is life! |
