This is the National Association of Breeders of the Andaluz Donkey, or in Spanish, Asociacion Nacional de Criadores de la Raza Asnal Andaluza. This particular breed of donkey is in danger of extinction as recognized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries in year 2001. The above association ANCRAA was formed so that with the help of like minded people, this almost extinct breed can be saved and slowly increased, thereby saving a little bit of heritage for future generations to enjoy.

ANCRAA is a not for profit association and all helpers are volunteers.

All monies go towards the welfare of the donkeys for food bills, vet bills and the farrier. No salaries are paid.
These beautiful Andaluz Donkeys are cared for rent free, on a private finca on the Costa del Sol, in Spain. The herd at the moment is 19 donkeys, a mixture of youngsters and adults.

The latest official stud book figures say that there are approx 460 Andaluz Donkeys entered in the stud book. These are scattered around Andalucia mostly privately owned, with the exception of the Military Stud which still retains a small group for breeding. For a breed to be successful it needs around 700 animals so that the gene pool is reasonable and no incestuous breeding takes place. This is also why it is so important to know the paternity of each foal born.

Perhaps you could help this conservation breeding project?
If so please go to the Donations page as you can donate by PayPal or by post.
Do remember that without your help we cannot continue, so please be positive and act now before it is too late for these beautiful donkeys.

We welcome visitors to the breeding sanctuary to see the work in progress and to enjoy the company of the Giant Andaluz Donkeys. Your help is so valuable.

There are many of you that will be holidaying on the Costa del Sol this year, so why not take a little time out to come and visit the sanctuary. Details on the “Find us” page. It is something different and educational and helps to teach both young and old about conservation and giving back to the planet.
Animals are all part of the rich and diverse jigsaw of life and we need them as much as they need us!

We look forward to seeing you soon.
